The Northern California Campaign Trip: A Great Success
September 17, 2003
After a swift, campaign trip through Turlock, Berkeley, and San Luis Obispo, Mr. Gastrich returned to San Diego to spend some time with his family.
"It was a fantastic trip. The debate at UC Berkeley was a great experience. Having so much media there that cared about my campaign, platform, and viewpoints was refreshing. I have renewed hope in the media and their desire to cover the candidates evenly," exclaimed Jason.
When asked about his performance in the debate, he said, "I'm always excited to debate the issues! When you know what you believe and you have a solid plan, it's great to have a venue to voice it. My opponents were well-prepared and Brooke shared a lot of my vision for California. Georgy had some very extreme views, but it's good to bring everything to the table and let the voters decide."
Independent Brooke Adams and Democrat Georgy Russell were Mr. Gastrich's opponents in this, timed debate. They fielded a number of prepared questions and several surprise questions from the audience. Party Y, Mobilize America's Youth, and UC Berkeley's Informal Debate Society were co-sponsors of this event.
The candidates under 30 years of age were invited to participate in a debate, the following day, at San Luis Obispo. All of them canceled except for Mr. Gastrich.
"I'm not sure what happened to the other candidates, but it was great to meet the fine students of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. My message resonated very well with them," said Jason.
Leah, from Party Y, asked Jason questions about immigration, the budget deficit, his campaign, student fees, and some other, important issues. In addition to Mr. Gastrich's interview, by special request, he played "The Recall Song" to a group of cheering students.
The candidates that were absent include Georgy Russell, Brooke Adams, Bryan Quinn, and Daniel Watts.
Kind regards,
Gastrich for Governor, '03
